        Udaynarayanpur block of Howrah district of southern part of West Bengal is known to be a flood prone area. In the year of 1978, the community condition was doubly tragic at the advent of Durga Puja as the flood occurred with unprecedented rain together with the release of excess water from adjacent dams inundated and devastated the locality of Udaynarayanpur block. The victims of disaster affected areas were suffering from severe socio-economic crisis as manifested during post flood situation.
        In that critical situation, the rescue volunteers consisting of a section of local youth realised that the women of the families had been playing crucial roles to rehabilitate the distresses households after having exposed to the vocational skill training by the women folk to what extent possible to supplement the family income as facilitated by the volunteers. Such ideas eventually encouraged the volunteers to form the organisation “Village Welfare Society”. This old age home, ANANDAM, one of the crucial parts of the organisation. This is a social development organisation has been working with poor and under privileged in West Bengal since its inception. .
